Kaylee Fay is our first and current student on placement, from the University of Gloucestershire studying Ecology and Environmental Science. She started her placement with GWCT Wales at the beginning of September and will continue until August 2025.
“I can’t believe the first month of my year placement with The Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust Cymru has already gone by! Within only one month I have gained so much experience and had the opportunity to attend some great events already.”
“Despite working from home, I have had the chance to travel to Rhayader, to attend the National Farmers Union (NFU) conference, see the gorgeous Cefn Tilla Court for a fundraising clay shoot, attended Realism First Aid Training + Forestry Course at Nant Conwy Rugby Club, assisted The Last Curlew Event held at the Senedd Cymru in Cardiff where I got to meet Huw Irranc Davies along with other politicians who have the power to influence decisions within the Welsh Government, and most recently attending the GWCT staff conference in Salisbury mixing with some of the leading scientific minds behind the research that goes on throughout the GWCT.”
“At the end of October, I travelled to Bangor University to attend the career fair with some team members to speak to students about the work done by the GWCT and the opening for the new placement, which really opened my eyes to how much I have experienced within the first month of being with the GWCT.”
“I am attending ongoing drone training, which I will use later in the season. As well as having the guided freedom to work on several different projects, learning new skills and putting to use some of the creative skills I already have and enjoy, such as graphic design, and photography. I am so excited to see what the rest of placement holds, after having such an exciting first month.”
