Gwysaney Shoot supporting GWCT conservation in Wales

Following a successful 2024-25 shooting season at Gwysaney Sporting Club Ltd the owner James Davies-Cooke has presented GWCT Cymru with an astounding donation of £10k raised at the Gwysaney Young Shots Day and the collection of sweepstakes throughout the season.

Gwysaney Sporting Club Ltd is a family run and owned high quality pheasant and partridge shoot. It is situated in the rolling hills of Flintshire only 14 miles from Chester.

The GWCT Gwysaney Young Shots Day was hosted on the 2 September 2024, with 8 budding young shots eager to experience a day in the hills under the expert guidance of the Gwysaney team. The attendees along with their families were greeted with bacon rolls on arrival at Gwysaney. The morning started off with 2 drives (including a challenging one in the mist!) and a pit stop for elevenses on the bbq. Pegs on the day were kindly donated/sponsored by some of our guns including David Sheldrake, Chris Smith, Josh Pritchard to name but a few. Many thanks again to all of them for their kind generosity.

Two more drives we led at the top of the valley in the afternoon, before heading back to the shoot room for a buffet of locally sourced dishes, including partridge and venison to finish off a fabulous day

Lee Oliver, GWCT Wales Director says “We are lucky to receive such a generous donation from James and the team at Gwysaney, diolch yn fawr iawn. The funds raised will go towards our continued conservation work in Wales, looking to reverse the decline in biodiversity. This highlights the good work shooting does for conservation.”

James presented the kind donation to Owen Williams GWCT Wales Chair at the British Shooting Show in Birmingham on 14th Feb 2025.

James Davies-Cooke, Gwysaney Shoot Owner said “We’re keen for any funds raised at Gwysaney events to feed back into the shooting community and the science lead by GWCT. To date we’ve hosted a number of events with GWCT, from Shoot walks to the Young shots days. We look forward to our next event in aid of GWCT Wales’s science led work in conservation.”

A warm welcome awaits all that visit or shoot at Gwysaney from James, along with his accommodating team.
