Each year the GWCT hosts undergraduate students on ecology, conservation and data science-related degrees, offering them an exciting opportunity to spend their sandwich placement year taking part in important game and wildlife conservation research.
This Student Placement is based in Wales working alongside the GWCT Wales team on various projects. We have a range of ongoing projects, covering many different species and habitats. There will be opportunities to work on a number of these throughout the year. Projects across Wales involved with species such as woodcock, yellow hammer, curlew with several other projects in the pipeline, to include species such as kestrel, hares, black grouse and waders
We encourage and expect our students to play a full and active part in our research, and therefore a placement with the GWCT is an opportunity to challenge yourself in the field. Our placements present opportunities to expand your experience in such areas as surveying birds and habitats; catching and tagging individuals; data handling, analysis and reporting; database construction; experimental design; GIS; and radio telemetry work.
GWCT Wales can accommodate a placement student for up to a year, or a shorter period as necessary.
If students would like to discuss the placement, they should contact Lee Oliver loliver@gwct.org.uk
Closing date: Friday 10 January 2025
Interviews: will be held online from the 27 January to the 7 February 2025, with the successful candidate expected to start in September 2025
